Serenity Roots was founded by Cherise Mizelle, a mental health counselor and healthcare leader with over a decade of experience in human services and hospital-based patient care.

Cherise holds a Master’s in Public Administration from the College of New Rochelle and a Master’s in Mental Health Counseling from Alfred University. She currently serves as a Mental Health Counselor counseling and as an Supervisor at Brookdale University Hospital, where she oversees patient advocacy and care coordination.

After years of working closely with vulnerable populations in crisis, Cherise founded Serenity Roots to provide structured, sober, and supportive housing for senior men and veterans reentering life after addiction, incarceration, or medical treatment.
Rooted in dignity, structure, and healing, Serenity Roots partners with hospitals, case managers, and veteran services to help residents take their next step toward stability and independence.
About US

Our Story
Serenity Roots was founded by two classmates and child hood friends who grew up in the heart of Brooklyn, NY, where they witnessed firsthand how marginalized and disenfranchised individuals were too often overlooked, underserved, and unfairly treated.
Fueled by personal experience and professional purpose, they created Serenity Roots Sober Living Homes to be a safe, structured place of healing, dignity, and new beginnings — especially for those who’ve been pushed aside. This is their way of giving back, and creating real change — one life, one home, one root at a time.
